detroit.- Donald Trump complained again this Thursday about the federal response to the pair of hurricanes that devastated large parts of the southeast of the country, because he is once again trying to turn the two deadly storms for his political benefit before the November election .
The former president gave a speech at the Economic Club of Detroit, shortly after his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, virtually attended a briefing held in the White House Strategy Room to address emergency efforts. after the arrival of Hurricane Milton.
Harris was scheduled to attend a meeting at Univision in Las Vegas and an afternoon rally in Phoenix, while remaining in close contact with federal authorities about the storm.
Trump sent empathetic messages to people affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which made landfall Wednesday night.
Trump also suggested that the federal government’s response had not come, particularly in North Carolina, where he alleged that the government “had not done what it’s supposed to do after Helene.”
“They are allowing people to suffer unfairly,” said Trump, who for several days has promoted falsehoods about the response of President Joe Biden and emergency management officials.
President Biden repeatedly lashed out at Trump for spreading misinformation about federal aid available to victims, including falsely claiming that aid is capped at $750.
In reality, this amount is only for immediate needs and will be the first payment made, rather than the total.
“The $750 cap that Trump and all those people are talking about, who claim that that is all they are going to receive, is a lie,” Biden said this Thursday.
“It’s bizarre, they have to stop doing that, they are hurting Americans by saying those things.”
When asked if he planned to speak to Trump to urge him to stop, Biden said he would not, but then sent a message, speaking directly to the cameras: “Former President Trump, get a life and help those people.”
