There is a rumor spreading online that claims that Xbox is reportedly abandoning the Saudi Arabian marketwith Microsoft having communicated to retailers its intention to no longer distribute its console in that territory.
The question must obviously be taken with a pinch of salt, as the source, “MAlbsimi” on X, is not easily verifiable. However, it is a journalistwhich in the geographical area in question is held in certain consideration with regards to the gaming and technological fields, therefore this arouses considerable curiosity.
This is a question of a certain complexity, perhaps not easily detectable by simple contacts with retailers, however it seems in line with what was anticipated by other more reliable sources, another thing that makes this information take into consideration.
A total retreat from the Middle East?
About three months ago, Tom Warren of The Verge anticipated the possibility that Microsoft was reviewing the extension of the Xbox market, with a possible stop to the sale of consoles in some territories to focus instead on Game Pass, cloud and accessories.
We were talking about the EMEA territorieswhich include the Middle East, Africa and Europe, although as far as the latter is concerned it is difficult to think now of a total retreat by Microsoft on this front.
However, the rumor previously spread by The Verge would find confirmation in the communication of the aforementioned Arab journalist on X, which would make Microsoft’s desire to block the sale of consoles in Saudi Arabia plausible.
This would obviously leave the field open to competition, with Sony which already controls very significant market shares in this territory, almost leading to a monopoly situation, which is somewhat ironic, considering the considerations that emerged at the time of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
