New blow to the automotive world by the Paris City Administration. The French city has in fact seen the entry into force of a measure that prohibits the sale of diesel, with a stop to the refueling of diesel fuel in 4 service stations where it will no longer be possible to fill up with this type of fuel. The ban is part of a measure introduced by Parisian institutions on June 25 to try to combat air pollution. The entry into force was scheduled for the summer but then there was a delay until the beginning of October.
The decision to stop diesel at 4 petrol stations
Motorists obviously did not appreciate this new measure, which currently concerns 4 TotalEnergies service stations, even though they had already been widely informed through an information campaign starting last September 15th. Currently the ban on the sale of diesel concerns refueling in these four service stations but it is not certain that the rule will not be extended to other distributors as well. At the moment the service stations affected are in Porte d’Auberbvilliers, Porte d’Orleans and on the Quai d’Issy-les-Moulineaux. Parisians will still be able to refuel their diesel cars, with 40 fuel pumps in the city but the choice of these distributors is not accidental given that according to the data provided they would allow satisfying over 50 percent of the diesel needs consumed in Paris with 750,000 supplies per year.
Not only diesel but also SUVs
The motivation behind this decision by the Parisian administration was justified as aimed at combating fine particles which every year are responsible for the death of eight thousand people in the Ile de France alone. In recent days, the maxi tax on parking for SUVs and more generally for cars with a high weight had also come into force, another measure designed by the Municipality of Paris to try to make the city environment more sustainable and push citizens to use public transport.
