The winners were announced during the opening ceremony of the Tenth International Conference on the Arabic Language, which began today and continues until October 12.
Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed the importance of initiatives supporting the Arabic language and its role in consolidating its presence and status locally and globally, pointing out that the “Mohammed bin Rashid Award for the Arabic Language” embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The award witnessed great interest and participation this year, as it achieved an unparalleled increase in completed registrations to participate in the award, amounting to 76%, compared to the previous edition, thus reaching a record number of reaching the largest number of registrants since its launch in 2014.
Applications were received from a wide range of interested parties, including individuals, groups and institutions from 65 countries around the world, with 75% of applicants from Africa, 23% from Asia, 1% from Europe, and the remainder from the Americas and Oceania.
The award received applications from participants from 9 new countries: Mexico, Norway, Poland, Thailand, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Djibouti, South Korea, and Mauritius.
These contributions contributed to highlighting the importance of the award, its success in reaching a wider audience, and its effective role in enhancing the status of the Arabic language at the global level.
Other key statistics from the submissions indicate that individuals made up 93% of all entries and the education theme topped the most entries, making up 53% of all applications submitted, demonstrating applicants’ keen interest and active participation in educational endeavors related to the Arabic language.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Award for the Arabic Language allocates approximately 2.8 million UAE dirhams (770 thousand US dollars) to distribute prizes across various axes, namely education, technology, media and communication, in addition to linguistic policy, planning and Arabization, culture, thought and the knowledge society, which confirms its commitment Permanently enhancing the status of the Arabic language globally.
