Three dead and five injured have left three attacks recorded this year outside the Cereso de Aquiles Serdán, when former inmates who had just been released left the prison and were transported in vehicles by their companions.
In the last of the attacks, recorded the night of last Tuesday, October 8, unofficial versions suggest that it could have been due to a dispute between the antagonistic groups of ‘La Empresa’ and ‘Los Aztecas’, due to conflicts between their most senior members. that operate in the state capital.
The origin of this attack would be different from the other cases registered in recent months, since in the other two previous ones – which occurred on July 18 and August 15 of this year – the attackers and the people attacked were identified as alleged members of groups of the Sinaloa Cartel, according to information from the Ministry of Public Security (SSPE) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
The first of the events occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, July 18 of this year, when Manuel Villicaña Pacheco, alias “Chuy Largo” or “Largo Pol”, was leaving the prison, identified since 2018 as the successor of Manuel Arzola Campos, alias “Don Meny.” ” who, along with his brothers Francisco, Gerardo and Héber, maintained control of the distribution of glass in the city for several years, particularly in the northern sector.
“Largo Pol” was captured in August of that year, prosecuted for carrying weapons and drugs in federal jurisdiction and admitted to Aquiles Serdán, where he made an alliance with Enrique LA, alias “El Cumbias”, another alleged member of the Sinaloa Cartel who , after having achieved freedom, was re-apprehended in 2023 also for crimes against health and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to unofficial versions of the FGE, both the victim and his ally maintained links with a faction of the criminal group that operates from Sinaloa, which has sought to take control of illicit businesses from another member of the same cartel, Salvador Humberto SVM, alias “El Verín” or “The Lord of the V”, considered responsible for the attack.
Four individuals presumably participated in this ambush and shot at the Dodge Durango truck in which “Largo Pol” was traveling, which was driven by Martín Eduardo GL, agent of the Chihuahua Municipal Police, and Javier Guillermo Rembao Pompa, who was part of the rural military body based in Guachochi.
“Largo Pol” and Rembao Pompa were killed in the attack, as well as one of the hitmen who participated in the ambush, who would have been killed by mistake by his own companions, according to what appears in the security videos that circulated; The municipal agent of Chihuahua was injured in the hand.
In this case there was only one person arrested, accused of “hawking” activities at the Cereso exit. Regarding the material authors of the homicides, no arrests have been reported; However, unofficial information indicates that the person responsible for coordinating the attack was Luis Carlos VR, alias “El Topo”, an ally of “El Verín”, who managed to gain control of criminal activities in the Aquiles Serdán area.
Another ambush by the Sinaloa Cartel
In the second ambush at the exit of Cereso, recorded less than a month after the first, on August 15, three were wounded by gunshots and no perpetrators were arrested.
In this case, according to unofficial sources in charge of the investigations, the targets were alleged members of the Sinaloa Cartel recently released from state prison.
Injured in the attack were Manuel Alejandro UV, 29 years old; Elier Iden GU, 27 years old, and Arturo HP, 20 years old, the latter brother of a criminal leader from Guachochi, identified as Alberto HP, alias “El Cheyenne,” who fights against another group of the same cartel.
Elier and Arturo had been held in Cereso since last July 6 of this year, accused of placing narcomantas with threats against the other faction that disputes control in Guachochi, Guadalupe N., alias “El Palapas.”
Shortly before nine o’clock at night on that date, the three attacked were leaving the Cereso de Aquiles Serdán when they were attacked with bullets from another unit that caught up with them, which fled at full speed.
The Prosecutor’s Office kept the details of the vehicles involved under wraps, but according to a report from hospital personnel where they arrived around 9:30 p.m., the three arrived aboard a car that had bullet holes.
The injured recovered in the hospital two days after the events and did not face any charges, so they were released.
The investigations indicate that the attack was directed at the brother of “El Cheyenne”, due to the family connection with the leader of Gente Nueva in the municipality of Guachochi, involved in a struggle with the other leader of the same criminal group considered a member of the Cártel de Sinaloa.
Third attack, not related to the cartel
In the third attack that occurred in less than three months, the Central Zone Prosecutor’s Office (FZC) reported that it has not established a motive or a single line of investigation, within the case opened by the Police Unit.
Injuries and Damage.
Unofficial data from investigators point to a possible revenge between gangs that would not be linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, but possibly to other criminal groups that maintain a presence in the state capital.
Although the motive has not been officially clarified, the versions that emerged after the attack presume the participation of both attackers and victims of ‘Los Aztecas’ and ‘La Empresa’, linked at different times to the Juárez Cartel.
In this case, the FGE announced that they are aware that a couple went to pick up a former inmate released last Tuesday night, when near the junction of the road to Cereso and the Vicente Lombardo Toledano peripheral, the three were attacked shot from another vehicle.
In this case, the woman was injured; The former inmate managed to flee the scene of the incident and an attacker was arrested, as was one of the passengers of the attacked vehicle, the driver, because he had a current arrest warrant that the FGE had not officially revealed until yesterday. .
