The North American company is a minority shareholder of the English club and, with this contribution, increases its stake to 31.1%
THE Atairosminority shareholder of Aston Villainvested 50 million euros (R$364 million) in the club last week, according to the The Athletic. With this investment, the North American company’s stake in the English club increased to 31.1%. Additionally, Atairos became a minority partner in V Sports, the holding company jointly owned by club owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, in December 2023.
Since 2019, under the leadership of Sawiris and Edens, V Sports has expanded its football portfolio. The holding includes a network of clubs, such as Victory of Guimarãesin Portugal, in addition to partnerships in Spain, Japan and Egypt. Despite Atairos’ increased stake, V Sports remains in control of Aston Villa, with Sawiris and Edens each holding 34.4% of the shares.
Previously, Atairos had increased its stake from 21.3% to 26.5% in August, after purchasing 44 million euros (R$320 million) in new shares. Founded in 2016, the strategic investment firm has a portfolio of US$6.5 billion (approximately US$8.5 billion) of equity.
The recent investment, therefore, aims to improve the structure of V Sports’ multi-club model. The resources will be directed to infrastructure and development. This agreement, ratified in March, keeps V Sports in control of decisions related to the club.
