After the recent announcement of the debut of a race starting in 2026 on the Arlington street circuit, with the track developed around the stadium of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL and the Texas Rangers in the MLB, IndyCar has experienced another novelty: no circuits or team, as will happen in the latter case with the debut of Prema in 2025, but a new pilot well known in the United States.
A luxury rookie
It’s about the British Louis Fostergraduated champion this year in Indy NXTi.e. the cadet category of IndyCar. Having entered the roll of honor of this class with the Andretti Global team, the 21-year-old will make his debut in the top US open-wheel series with Rahal Letterman Lanigana team co-owned with the winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500 Bobby Rahal, the well-known television host David Letterman and the businessman Mike Lanigan.
Multi-year contract
A team that believes a lot in young British talent, as demonstrated by multi-year contract which will tie Foster to the Hilliard (Ohio) team: “I’m really looking forward to working with the team – commented Foster – Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing won the Indy 500, obviously Bobby won an Indy 500 and there’s great knowledge within the team. I want to thank Bobby, David and Mike for their confidence in my abilitiesas well as all my sponsors who helped me realize my dream of making it to IndyCar, especially Copart. I look forward to starting my IndyCar career with the team and hope we can have a long and successful career together. Hopefully the experience I gained from winning the Indy NXT Championship will leave me in a good position to get off to a good start. This is where the hard work begins. We will begin preparations and make sure we hit the ground running in St. Peterburg.”
It will be in St. Petersburg (Florida) that Foster’s adventure in IndyCar will begin. While waiting, the team owners wanted to welcome the Englishman, with Lanigan wanting to compare his driver to another IndyCar figure: “We are very excited to have Louis Foster with us in the coming years. I can’t wait to see him become a future IndyCar star. He reminds me of another rider: the late, great Justin Wilson“.
