“Over the last few weeks, there has been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless spread of misinformation and outright lies about what is happening,” he told reporters, highlighting how those lies are now endangering people preparing for the Milton’s impact on Florida.
“Frankly, these lies are un-American, and there is simply no place for them, not now, not ever. Former President Trump has led this barrage of lies,” Biden said.
Trump and his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohiohave made accusations in recent weeks that have been repeatedly denied by local, state and federal authorities in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene, which left more than 230 deaths in its wakeand for Milton, who arrived this Wednesday night in Florida.

Among other things, Trump falsely claimed that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMAfor its acronym in English) does not have funds to support those affected by both hurricanes because the money has been spent on help migrants that arrive in the United States.
He also said no helicopters have been used to rescue victims in North Carolina and said FEMA told the victims who would receive only 750 dollars.
“They are saying that the people affected by these storms have received $750 in cash and nothing more. That is not true. They say that the money needed for these crises is being diverted to migrants. What the hell are they talking about? Stop it. It’s not true,” Biden emphasized.
The president also attacked Georgia legislator Marjorie Taylor Greene for writing on social networks that “they” can control the weather, without indicating who he is referring to, but alluding to the federal government.
“We are controlling the climate. That is beyond ridiculous. It is so stupid that it has to stop,” he said.
The president argued that these lies are causing Morale problems among emergency personnel and the Americans who were preparing Wednesday for Milton’s arrival in Florida.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday that Milton made landfall “near Siesta Key in Sarasota County,” on the west coast of Florida, as a Category 3 hurricane on a scale of 5. During the night, extreme winds of up to 165 km/h were recorded, according to NHC data.
Tornadoes were even spotted on the state’s east coast, the Weather Channel reported.
Milton once again reduced its strength during the early hours of this Thursday, to a Category 1 hurricane, but continued to register powerful winds of up to 140 km/h, according to the NHC.
The FEMA administrator, Deanne Criswellhas warned that its impact could be catastrophic and Biden has indicated that it could be “the storm of the century.”
