A couple of pro-Palestine activists, members of the group Youth Demand, which advocates an arms embargo and the breaking of other commercial ties between the United Kingdom and Israel, pasted a poster of a mother and son from Gaza over a work by the painter Pablo Picasso.
The case took place at the National Gallery, an art museum in London. The target work of the “protest” was Maternity, painted by the Spanish artist in 1901.
After security removed the photograph, the two activists threw red paint on the floor of the gallery and began claiming that the UK government is “complicit in genocide” in the Gaza Strip for supporting Israel’s defense against Hamas.
The National Gallery confirmed that no damage was caused to the masterpiece and the pair were arrested following the incident.
