Heavy rains cause flooding in Tampa, the capital of Florida, and coastal cities such as Venice. The winds also knock down power transformers and raise the danger alert in cities, which are under curfew.
THE WORST OF THE LAST 100 YEARS
The phenomenon was formed on October 5th due to rising temperatures in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The waters of the gulf registered temperatures of around 29.5 °C, approximately 1 °C above average. Water temperatures above 27°C along with winds and pressure changes make hurricanes more susceptible.
Additionally, the geography of Florida’s west coast, with its shallow coastal areas, contributes to the risk of high-wind storms.
United States authorities issue a series of warnings to the local population. President Joe Biden (Democratic Party) asked citizens to leave places with evacuation orders, which are mandatory. The Democrat said the phenomenon could be one of the worst in Florida in the last 100 years.
BRAZILIANS REPORT TENSION
Brazilians Gioconda Ferraz and João Mendes, residents of Florida, they said to the Power360 are going through moments of “a lot of anxiety” with the arrival of Hurricane Milton. The couple lives in Davenport, near Disneyland.
“These last few days have been very anxious. We started to notice a rush in the supermarket for water and canned food on Saturday [5.out]. So, it’s been a while since we started, we’ve been experiencing all this anxiety”said João Mendes.
The city where the couple lives does not have an evacuation warning. That’s why they say they decided to stay at home and prepare for the hurricane’s arrival.
