Leaders spoke by phone on Wednesday (9.Oct.2024) and discussed strategies against Iran
THE president of the USA, Joe Biden (Democratic Party), and the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud, right), spoke about the war in the Middle East on Wednesday (9.Oct.2024), by telephone. The 2 leaders hadn’t spoken directly in 7 weeks. The American vice president and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, participated in the call.
The conversation lasted about 50 minutes. The leaders discussed, among other things, strategies against Iran. statementthe White House said Biden spoke about “his firm commitment to Israel’s security” and “unequivocally condemned the Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1st”.
According to the White House, Biden “emphasized the need for a diplomatic agreement” to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
“The president affirmed Israel’s right to protect its citizens from Hezbollah, which fired thousands of missiles and rockets at Israel last year alone, while also emphasizing the need to minimize harm to civilians, particularly in densely populated areas of Beirut [capital do Líbano]”, the statement reads.
Biden, the White House said, “discussed the humanitarian situation” in the Gaza Strip. The US President and the Israeli Prime Ministeragreed to remain in contact in the coming days, both directly and through their national security teams”.
