Protagonist on and off the track
While waiting to wear the red Ferrari suit for the first time, which will welcome him to the team next year alongside Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton continues to be talked about not only for his results on the track but also for his own absolute protagonism outside the circuits. The world of fashion has always been of great interest to the British superstar and now the seven-time Formula 1 world champion is making his way at the highest levels in this sector too.
The current Mercedes representative, who this year also returned to success in the Circus by winning the British and Belgian GPs, was named among the co-chairs of the Met Gala 2025. The next edition of the exhibition organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will in fact be dedicated to the style of black men from the 18th century to the present day. The title and subject of the Costume Institute’s Spring 2025 exhibition is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Hamilton, who has been a regular guest at the Met Gala since 2015, will share the role of co-chair with other international superstars of sport, music and entertainment such as Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and honorary president LeBron James.
The words of Sir Lewis
“I am beyond honored to be one of the co-chairs of next year’s Met Gala, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ – Hamilton wrote on his social channels, commenting on the announcement – This topic touches me deeply. When I started my career I never imagined what I would be capable of doing beyond my sport. The pressure to conform holds many people back. Growing up as the only black kid on the track, this pressure often affected me. Expressing myself creatively has been and still is my freedom from conformity. For Black people in the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation. Fashion is about resilience and I can’t wait to further explore and amplify our underrepresented voices“. Chaired by Anna Wintour, the Met Gala 2025 will take place in New York on May 5th. The exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style it will be open to the public from 6 May to 26 October 2025.
