The second phase of ‘One Health: the many faces of sustainability’ is underway, the digital civic education initiative promoted and created by Medtronic, a leading company in the sector of health technologies and solutions, dedicated to teachers and students from 13 to 18 years old, which aims to educate towards greater awareness of the correlation between health, climate change, sustainable lifestyles, innovation and social inclusion.
The project – we read in a note – is in collaboration with Altis, Graduate school of sustainable management of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, the Leads association, Women leaders in Healthcare, Cittadinanzattiva and Civicamente, a benefit company that created the educationdigitale platform .it recognized as a body accredited by the Ministry of Education and Merit for the training of school staff, with experts in sociology, pedagogy and digital communication, specialized in educational projects for schools and societies. Thus, starting from the month of October, teachers of Italian middle and high schools will be able to access free of charge educational resources that allow them to deepen with their classes the training path that began in February last year, including 2 new focuses: ‘Health and Innovation’ and ‘Diversity and Inclusion’, as well as a ‘Before class’ format that helps teachers link the contents of the ‘Health and Environment’ module to the curriculum.
The 2 new modules aim to raise students’ awareness of gender equality and the importance of diversity, highlighting how greater inclusion can stimulate innovation, new solutions also in the healthcare and work sectors more generally. The 2 additional tools confirm the project’s desire to make a concrete contribution to the new generations, so that they can make informed choices in the future that have a positive impact on their health and on society. In the first phase, started last February, important issues were addressed through the ‘Health & environment’ and ‘Sustainable lifestyles’ modules. From this year the 2 new contents are also available. Each teaching module reserves the registered teachers dedicated multimedia tools and insights, designed to promote active learning and the critical re-elaboration of contents, in order to make lessons with the classes more engaging and participatory. Furthermore, for the exclusive use of teachers, 2 teaching guides are available for further training and, for each teaching tool, a sheet for curricular connections to make the path as integrated as possible with the other teaching subjects.
“With the ‘One Health’ project, we want to support the new generations in the knowledge and awareness of how sustainability, in its various facets, is key to human health, the planet and the future of everyone – says Elena Busetto, Corporate Sustainability Program Manager, Medtronic – We launched the first 2 focuses in February 2024 and, today, we are excited to announce the completion of the program, which will allow teachers to set up educational paths of a year or more, enriching children’s education from a of valorisation of diversity and innovation”.
As Paola Testori Coggi, vice-president of Leads, Women Leaders in Healthcare onlus, explains: “The World Economic Forum in 2021 placed Italy in 63rd place globally for gender equality in the fields of health and political education. Furthermore, a recent Deloitte research has underlined that cultural diversity determines a 20% increase in innovation. These are key concepts so within this project we wanted to emphasize diversity and inclusion”.
In this context, “we are convinced – concludes Alessia Coeli, General Manager of Altis – that knowledge and awareness are essential to promote sustainable change and that innovation, as well as dialogue and intergenerational alliance, are essential levers for finding solutions shared and concrete solutions to complex problems, thus ensuring a more responsible future”.
