State Duma deputy Lisovsky explained the problems with sowing winter crops due to grain duties
The problem with sowing winter crops in Russia, which was previously reported by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Oksana Lut, is not related to drought, but to low prices on the domestic market and the negative profitability of wheat, which developed in 2024. About this on the radio station “Moscow Speaks” told Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Protection of Competition Sergei Lisovsky.
According to him, because of “predatory” duties, it became unprofitable for peasants to sow grain, so the autumn drought, which happens quite often, has nothing to do with the problem. He doubted that rains could somehow improve the situation.
Earlier, Lut called for prayer and lighting candles for rain and harvest. She explained the difficult sowing of winter crops by the fact that farmers have to sow practically in the sand. At the same time, the ministry has not yet changed plans for the area of crops; they remain at the level of 20 million hectares.
Lisovsky recalled that if you take rapeseed, for which the profitability is positive, then sowing is going well, drought does not interfere with it. But for wheat, due to low prices within the country and difficulties with exports, farmers have not yet decided whether to sow or not. “We need to cancel duties and support the village,” the deputy concluded.
A month ago, analysts from the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) lowered the forecast for wheat harvest in Russia in 2024 by 1.6 million tons. The reason cited was unfavorable weather conditions in a number of regions.
