Politico: Trump wants rally at site of 1939 Nazi rally in New York
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants a rally in New York at Madison Square Garden, which has sparked a backlash from Democrats who point out that it hosted a march by the American Nazi Party on February 20, 1939. This was stated by state senator Brad Hoylman-Segal, reports Politico.
“Let’s clear things up. Allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG is tantamount to the infamous Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden on February 20, 1939,” the politician wrote.
However, Hoylman-Segal added that he is not directly calling the Republican candidate a Nazi, adding that he is only “noting the similarities.” According to him, this is possible because part of Trump’s electorate consists of “white supremacists.”
However, the outraged reaction to the rally may be due to the fact that Madison Square Garden is also considered a stronghold of Democratic Party supporters. In particular, according to Bloomberg, Trump wanted to organize such an event precisely for this reason, achieving a symbolic victory.
