Loviisa The annual maintenance of the nuclear power plant’s unit one is over, and the unit has returned to electricity production, says the nuclear power plant’s owner Fortum.
The extensive four-year annual maintenance of the first unit lasted 39 days and ended on Wednesday.
Originally, the annual maintenance of the first unit was supposed to be completed at the end of September. However, there were a few minor delays along the way.
Last Friday, during the start-up of the plant, a technical fault was discovered in one of the control rods, the repair of which delayed the annual maintenance for another four days.
“The start-up of the plant was interrupted so that the cause of the fault could be determined and the necessary corrective measures could be carried out. The fault was quickly located, and the entire mechanism of the control rod in question was replaced. After this, we were able to start the plant’s start-up and the necessary tests again,” says the manager of the Loviisa power plant Sasu Valkamo in the bulletin.
Loviisa the annual maintenance of the second unit ended at the end of August. The second unit underwent a short annual maintenance that lasted 23 days.
During annual maintenance, part of the reactor fuel was replaced with new fuel. In addition, preliminary maintenance work and inspections were carried out at the nuclear power plant, among other things.
In connection with the annual maintenance, the first batch of nuclear fuel supplied by the American Westinghouse Electric Company was loaded into the second reactor.
