Sonora, Mexico.– Federal forces, in coordination with the Government of Sonora, will seek to reduce high-impact crimes in the municipalities of Cajeme, Guaymas and Hermosillo in the next 100 days.
In a joint statement, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Navy and the state government reported that the operation will be carried out by an Inter-institutional Task Force (FTI).
“The objective of this strategy is to improve coordination between members of the Security Cabinet and the State Government, to reduce insecurity, high-impact crimes and neutralize the generators of violence,” the document states. In recent months, Cajeme has been a territory in dispute between the Caborca cartels, led by relatives of Rafael Caro Quintero, and a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by “Los Chapitos”, Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán, sons of Joaquín ” El Chapo” Guzmán.
The agreement to deploy the Inter-institutional Task Force was reached this afternoon after a meeting held at the Government Palace in Hermosillo, where the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, was present; the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, and the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales.
“Today I met in Sonora with Governor Alfonso Durazo and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, where we coordinated the Security strategy for the first 100 days of Government, in this state. Together we renewed efforts and moved forward,” wrote Morales in his X account. García Harfuch, who yesterday presented the National Security Strategy, also held a meeting this Wednesday with Tere Jiménez, Governor of Aguascalientes. “We reviewed the strategies to reinforce security in Aguascalientes. I appreciate the openness and dialogue to work in coordination for the security of our state and the region,” said the President.
