Ratan Tata, the former chairman of the Tata Group, has died at the age of 86 after a long illness in Mumbai. The Indian giant announced it. Born on December 28, 1937, Ratan Tata was the grandson of Jamshedji Tata, founder of the group. After graduating as an architect from Cornell University, USA, he started working in the group in 1962. Ratan Tata was the president of the Indian conglomerate for over 20 years, from 1991 to 2012.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on ‘X’, paid tribute to Ratan Tata, remembering a “visionary entrepreneur, a compassionate soul, an extraordinary human being”: “He provided stable leadership to one of the oldest and prestigious Indian business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond his offices. He endeared himself to many people through his humility, kindness and constant commitment to making our society better.”
