The farewell to Renault Twingo it is not definitive because the city car come back! It will be an electric car with low cost prices from 20,000 euros. It is based on the platform AmpR Small used for B-segment electric cars (formerly CMF-B EV) and developed by Amperesthe new corporate division created specifically for the design, development and production of Groupe Renault’s electric vehicles. The prototype, in fact, is displayed on the Renault stand at Paris Motor Show 2024.
New Renault Twingo
The new Twingo, scheduled for launch in 2026, will be acheap electric car with a price of approx 20,000 euros. The concept Twingo E-Tech Electric Prototype anticipates its characteristics, presenting dimensions of 3.75 m in length, 1.73 m in width, 1.47 m in height and a wheelbase of 2.49 m.
While maintaining the iconic design of the Original Twingothe rear is more modern, with a black-framed rear window and semi-circular LED taillights, while the “Twingo” lettering in the center of the tailgate adds a distinctive touch.
The concept of the new Twingo presents itself as an expressive and friendly face, with round light clusters which recall the first generation of 1992, as well as the circular handle of the doors and the three small openings on the front bonnet, the latter an aesthetic reference to the origins but now devoid of functionality for engine ventilation, given that it is a 100% electric city car.
Engine, battery and autonomy
Renault chose to use an adapted version of the platform AmpR Small for the new Twingo, already in use for the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric. Technically it could therefore fit a 90 HP electric motor combined with the battery from 40 kWhwhich ensures approximately 300 km of autonomy.
Again from a technical point of view, the novelty will above all concern efficiency, with an estimated consumption of 10 kWh/100 kmconsidered the best for the category of these cars.
When it arrives, price
The new Twingo arrives on the European and Italian market in 2026. The project will be developed over two years by the division Amperes with the support of Chinese partners. Production will be European at the Renault factory in Novo Mesto in Slovenia.
It is currently unclear which Chinese company will support Renault in reducing development costs after that Volkswagen has decided not to collaborate for the construction of a small shared electricity.
To lower the price of the Twingo, Renault in any case aims to speed up productionsimplifying production processes. In fact, the main objective is to reduce assembly time a less than 10 hourscompared to around 14 hours for the Renault Clio and almost 10 hours for the Renault 5.
