The “Tanweer Festival”, which will be held in the Mleiha Desert on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of next November, offers on its second and third days 10 workshops that give the public the opportunity to explore new dimensions of creativity and art, and interact with an elite group of international artists and experts.
The workshops are presented by an elite group of innovative visionaries in the fields of music, Arabic calligraphy, light painting, and the arts of performance and expression. The workshops are designed to reflect the vision of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, founder and visionary of the “Tanweer Festival,” towards expanding the horizon of artistic practices. And enhancing its impact on bringing about transformation and positive change.
Breathing exercises
The workshops on the second day of the festival will begin on November 23 with a “breathing exercises session” presented by Walid Abul Naga, a certified breathing exercises trainer, known for guiding participants through transformative journeys of self-discovery. The workshop constitutes a meditative experience to revitalize the mind and body.
The second day of the festival highlights the first handbahn player in the Middle East, the artist Anas Al-Halabi, and the Anas Handbahn Orchestra, where Al-Halabi combines rhythms and melodies, offering the audience the opportunity to explore new ways of composing and playing music in this interactive session.
“Ornament and gilding,” followed by a workshop presented by the “School of Calligraphy and Decoration” under the supervision of Dr. Israa Al-Hamal and Mustafa Sidqi, entitled “Ornament, Gilding, and Geometric Forms,” where Al-Hamal focuses on the aspects of decoration and gilding, while Sidqi covers the aspect of geometric shapes, and introduces the two artists, who Their works have been exhibited in major international exhibitions, showcasing the aesthetics of Islamic decorative and gilding arts, and combining traditional and contemporary techniques.
In a combination of music, energy and movement, Sufi teacher and movement ethnologist, Dr. Farima Birinji offers the “Sufi Circulation” workshop as a way to connect people with culture.
“The art of calligraphy with light”
The festival meets the aspirations of pioneers and enthusiasts of visual arts and culture in the “The Art of Calligraphy with Light” workshop by artist Julien Britton. The workshop constitutes an opportunity to witness the mixing of the arts of Arabic calligraphy and drawing with light, as participants learn how to transform the letters and words of Arabic calligraphy into light artistic masterpieces. The first workshops begin on the third and closing day. “Sound Techniques” workshop with interactive audio experience expert Zareen Dadachangi, who takes participants on an audio journey in which various audio tools and techniques are used to promote relaxation and recovery.
After this interactive experience, attendees can participate in a “Sufi movement performance” workshop presented by the “Shamian Dervishes Ensemble.” This session allows participants to experience the performance that has always been a distinctive feature of Sufi and Mevlevi orders for centuries.
The “Art of Arabic Calligraphy” workshop, presented by the “Sharjah Center for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy” affiliated with the Department of Cultural Affairs at the “Sharjah Department of Culture,” sheds light on the Al-Ruq’a and Diwani calligraphy, under the supervision of the calligraphers Muhammad Al-Nouri from Iraq and Muhammad Farouk Al-Haddad from Syria. Winner of the grand prize at the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum in its 11th session. The workshop seeks to train male and female students under the age of 15 in these two types of calligraphy. In its theoretical aspect, it also discusses the most prominent differences in Arabic calligraphy through detailed explanations.
Each workshop was designed to provide a space for attendees to contemplate, communicate and discover new dimensions of creativity, and the unique environment of the Mleiha region enhances this experience, bringing together art, nature and history in a comprehensive, transformative journey.
