Max in the story
In the last years of repeated victories, Max Verstappen has quickly climbed the Formula 1 record booksalso favored by the longest seasons ever and decidedly dominant single-seaters such as the 2022 and 2023 Red Bulls.
The Dutchman has so far collected three world titles (only five have done better than him) and a total of 61 successes (only Hamilton and Schumacher ahead of him) and 40 pole positions (fifth place overall). Considering he is just 27 years old, Verstappen still has plenty of time ahead of him to improve his stats.
The threat of withdrawal
Periodically though Max underlines to the press and fans his desire to do something else besides Formula 1 and he has repeatedly explained that he doesn’t see himself behind the wheel for another ten years. On the other hand, he always said that his dream was to become world champion, not to collect titles and records.
About that Helmut MarkoRed Bull consultant, reiterated to ORF: “Max is not like Alonso or Hamilton, who drive as long as their fitness allows. He is interested in winning, but the number of titles won is not a priority, whether it’s 4, 5 or 6. Max wants to have fun and be enthusiastic about this sport. He wants an environment in which he feels comfortable.” And in recent times, according to Marko, that hasn’t really been the case: “He was struck by the swearing story or even by what happened at the Red Bull Ring, where he was accused of being harsh and unfair, while he only did what was required by the regulations. The public wants to see this, we need to go back to the old saying of ‘let them run’. We shouldn’t break the rules, but we shouldn’t interpret them in such a narrow way either.”
