Sammy Basso’s mother: “Having him as a son was a gift”
Sammy Basso was a wonderful gift: says Laura Lucchin, the mother of the 28-year-old suffering from progeria, a rare disease that causes premature aging, who died in the night between 5 and 6 October.
Interviewed by The Republicthe woman, who immediately rushed to Villa Razzolin Loredan in Asolo for a last hug to her son in the place where he unfortunately died, states about Sammy that having him was “a great and wonderful gift”.
Laura Lucchin then explains that her son’s life expectancy was “initially 14 years but the experimental therapy started when he was twelve years old helped him a lot, and is helping many other patients”.
The news sparked a wave of affection from all over Italy: “I didn’t imagine that the response would be such an outpouring of love towards Sammy.”
“The world is moving. We have testimonies from everywhere. Because Sammy was able to touch crazy chords, in everyone” added Sammy Basso’s mother.
Meanwhile, the family has announced that the 28-year-old’s funeral will be held on Friday 11 October at 3pm, in the area between the Church and the municipal stadium of Tezze sul Brenta.
