The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi updated its volunteer work policy, as part of the department’s efforts to stimulate and encourage volunteer work in the emirate, to be more comprehensive and efficient, in line with professional standards and preserve cultural heritage.
The updated policy includes simplified procedures and increased flexibility for volunteers registered through the “Volunteers.Emirates” platform. The new procedures include guidelines on the roles and responsibilities of volunteers, and increasing transparency by recording volunteer hours in a timely manner, to enhance the effectiveness of volunteer efforts, and to ensure consistent professional standards.
Mohammed Hilal Al Balushi, Executive Director of the Community Participation and Sports Sector at the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, said: “The policy has been updated to increase voluntary participation in various sectors and enhance the spirit of community participation, ensuring a more unified approach to community participation.”
The Department announced the achievements of volunteer work in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the year 2023, as it recorded 873,787 volunteer hours, an increase of 63% over the year 2022, which highlights the growing impact of community participation.
The Community Contributions Authority – Together plays an important role in supporting the volunteer environment by spreading the culture of volunteerism and developing programs that meet the needs of society, in cooperation with government, private and third sector agencies.
Maysaa Al Nowais, Executive Director of the Community Participation and Volunteering Sector at the Community Contributions Authority – Ma’an, said: “This policy will enhance our efforts in creating effective volunteer opportunities that address social priorities, which contributes to enhancing the quality of life of community members in general. “By empowering volunteers, we not only address pressing social challenges, but we also strengthen the fabric of our society.”
The Emirates Foundation plays a vital role in supporting the efforts of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi and the volunteer environment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as the Foundation contributes to encouraging volunteerism and enabling volunteers to obtain volunteer opportunities through the Volunteers.ae platform.
