Rolando M. D’Angelillo is the new incoming president of the Italian Society of Uro-Oncology (Siuro). The election took place during the 34th national congress of the scientific society, which ended last Saturday in Bologna and which saw the participation of over 400 specialists from all over the country. Born in Naples, D’Angelillo is professor of Radiotherapy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Since 2022 he has been vice president of Siuro and in a year he will take over from Sergio Bracarda.
“I am honored to be able to preside over such a prestigious scientific society which over the years has earned the trust of the entire Italian uro-oncology community – declares D’Angelillo – During my presidency I intend to carry forward the numerous projects already started and we will forward with new initiatives. We will always do so following our philosophy which is multidisciplinary. Siuro must increasingly become a place for discussion and scientific debate between the various specialists who deal with urological tumors. It is also my intention to involve the many young colleagues who are already active within the scientific society, trying to create paths that involve not only knowledge, but also soft skills. Particular attention will be paid to the training of professionals which has always been one of Siuro’s peculiarities”.
“New courses and specialization schools will be launched – anticipates D’Angelillo – which will see the participation, as speakers and teachers, of clinicians not only in the uro-oncology field and who today are taking on ever more importance in the holistic care of patients Our knowledge of urinary gens tumors is greater than a few years ago thanks to recent medical-scientific research. If we want truly multidisciplinary patient care, we also need the support of specialists from other branches of medicine.”
