Las Palmas, bottom of the Spanish Football League, announced the appointment of former Espanyol coach Diego Martinez as the team’s new coach until June 2025.
The contract includes a clause allowing an extension for an additional season if the club avoids relegation.
The appointment of Martinez (43 years old) comes after Las Palmas separated from his Spanish compatriot Luis Carrion.
The club has not achieved any victory so far in the league this season, as it tied on three occasions and lost six matches out of nine it played.
Las Palmas said in a statement: “With more than 100 matches in the Spanish League, the new Las Palmas coach also has experience in European competitions, having led Granada and Olympiacos in the Europa League.”
Las Palmas will play Valencia, ranked 18th, on October 21.
