Paulo Ziulkoski states that the influence of the government party, the PT, was very low as it was only elected in 248 municipalities
The president of CNM (National Confederation of Municipalities), Paulo Ziulkoski, said in an interview with Power360 that for the 2nd round of the municipal election, which will be held on October 27th, there is a tendency for “agglutinate more to the right”.
According to Ziulkoski, the influence of the current federal government party, the PT, in the municipal election was very low. “This is a question to reflect on. Why was he only elected in 248 municipalities? He didn’t elect and I don’t think he will elect any capital”.

The PT, the president’s party Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, elected 248 mayors across Brazil in the 1st round and did not elect anyone in the 26 Brazilian capitals. Dispute the 2nd round in 4 capitals.
The PL, party of the former president Jair Bolsonaro, was the acronym that most elected mayors in the 1st round of the election in municipalities with more than 200 thousand votersa group known as G103. There were 10 members of the acronym who won last Sunday (October 6, 2024) in these large cities.
The parties most aligned to the right increased their number of city halls in the 2024 municipal elections. They advanced from 2,502 cities gained in 2020 to 2,626 this year – an increase of 5%. It is the best result for the right since 2000.
On the other hand, the participation of left-wing parties fell by 13%. The parties most aligned with this ideology went from winning 852 city halls 4 years ago to 742 now.
Other points Ziulkoski said in the interview:
- the main job of the CNM is to ensure that mayors carry out good fiscal management “because resources are scarce in all areas”;
- the biggest challenges that mayors will face in the next term are in the areas of health, sanitation and education;
- it is necessary to prioritize public health and safety.
