Shinobi will become a movie: the great SEGA classic, which made its debut in arcades in 1987 and then landed on the first gaming platforms, including Master System and NES, will be adapted for cinema.
The announcement, which comes from SEGA and Universal Pictures, reveals that the film will be directed by Sam Hargrave, who he recently directed the two installments of Tyler Rake (Extraction) with Chris Hemsworth and therefore specializes in high-impact action sequences.
There screenplay it will be adapted for the occasion by Ken Kobayashi (Sunny, Move On), while Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will play the role of producers together with Dmitri M. Johnson and Toru Nakahara. The executive producers will be Mike Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson.
“The Shinobi series debuted in 1987 in the form of a coin-op and follows the events of Joe Musashi, a modern ninja which faces terrible threats,” we read in a note. “Made with a strong focus on epic and action, the Shinobi franchise has fourteen games, including spin-offs, and has sold over five million copies. “
A project born from the recent relaunch
As you may remember, SEGA announced a new Shinobi at the end of last year and we imagine that this is linked to the birth of the film project, as part of a decisive relaunch of the series.
For the moment there are no further details on the Shinobi film, nor has a release window been communicated by SEGA and Universal Pictures, but the production has promised updates on the film as soon as possible.
