“There is a rich history of Formula One in Scandinavia, back in the days when the European element of the World Championships was a very important part of F1. Some of the iconic cars and names from my childhood were racing in that part of the world at the time, so, it was fantastic to drive an F1 on those roads: recognizing the past while building on the future”: so David Coultard – Red Bull ambassador – talks about his emotions linked to the latest project from the English team.
A project in line with the strategy of “bringing racing cars among the people”, whether it was running the F1 in Petra or being on top of the Burj Al Arab.
In short, a little poetry in F1 doesn’t hurt given that – among other things – its international center of gravity makes many forget about history. This is the value of having an F1 race in Scandinavia, where for 50 years the race has laid the foundations for the love of F1 in Sweden, Denmark and the northern region.
A particular journey in which the former driver surprises unsuspecting local fans and puts on a show: in addition to the famous urban landscapes of the capitals Stockholm and Copenhagen, the F1 car travels towards the Scandinavian Raceway, where the Grand Prix took place in the 1970s of Sweden.
The tour also sees some rallycross action that interrupts the idyllic serenity of the Swedish countryside, with David taking on rallycross brother duo, Timmy and Kevin Hansen, on rural roads. In Denmark, the F1 car races against a stunt helicopter in a music video created by the most streamed local rapper Lamin.
On top of that, David traveled to the capital Copenhagen only to find himself overrun by the bicycles the city is well known for.
Then there’s another blast from the past as David and the RB7 join the forces of the mighty Vikings, relentless maritime explorers of Northern Europe. A bit of show never hurts, you know. But what matters – as always – is the message: bringing the cars closer to the people, remembering what F1 once was.
