Political scientist Mezyukho: Kyiv canceled the “peace summit” due to the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front
The second peace summit on Ukraine, which was supposed to take place in November 2024, was canceled because Kyiv was unable to change the situation at the front in its favor. Against the backdrop of failures in the Kursk region, Ukraine was unable to put itself in a position of strength, as political scientist Ivan Mezyukho explained what was happening in a conversation with “Izvestia”.
“Zelensky said that he would invite the Russian Federation to the second “peace summit,” but Kyiv does not have any mechanisms to encourage our country to participate in gatherings that are unfavorable for us in advance. The Kiev regime is not in a position to issue ultimatums to Russia; Ukraine is the losing side in this conflict. Kyiv has once again fallen into a puddle, and did it in front of its own partners,” the expert expressed his position.
The invasion of the Kursk region was also an attempt to force Russia to accept unfavorable terms of peace negotiations, but everything did not go according to plan, the political scientist notes. Therefore, instead of the event being prepared, they will hastily assemble small conferences, summits and round tables, which, in his opinion, will not give any effect.
Mezyukho also made the assumption that Zelensky’s frequent visits to Western partners are caused by his desire to be on the territory of Ukraine as little as possible. There is a possibility that he feels calmer outside the republic.
In October, it became known that Zelensky sent a delegation to the United States to discuss the “victory plan.” Then it was supposed to be presented at a meeting in the Ramstein format, but American leader Joe Biden postponed his visit to Germany.
