The Civil Defense in Gaza announced that at least 17 people were killed yesterday in an Israeli strike on the Bureij refugee camp in the center of the Strip. Civil Defense spokesman in Gaza, Mahmoud Basal, said in a statement, “17 dead, including children, and a number of wounded were recovered by civil defense crews in the Central District from a three-story house that was bombed with a missile from a warplane in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.” Basal reported earlier that several air strikes shook the areas of central and northern Gaza since the early hours of yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, residents said that Israeli tanks penetrated deep into Jabalia, northern Gaza, yesterday, while Israel ordered residents to evacuate the area while bombing the historic Palestinian refugee camp from the air.
Yesterday, the Israeli army warned the Palestinians to evacuate their homes in the town and Jabalia camp, north of the Gaza Strip, and to head south through a “safe corridor.”
The army spokesman for the Arab media, Avichai Adraee, said in a post on the “X” platform: The army “is about to operate forcefully in the Jabalia region, and reiterates its call on the residents to evacuate the area immediately and move south.” He continued: “In the near future, the forces of the 162nd Division will operate in that region forcefully by air and land.” He called on the Palestinians to “exit the area, move through Al-Ternis Street to Salah Al-Din Street only, and move south.”
Last Sunday, the Israeli army announced the start of a military operation in Jabalia. Under the pretext of “preventing Hamas fighters from regaining their power in the region,” hours after the start of a fierce attack on the eastern and western regions of the northern Gaza Strip, the most violent since last May.
Meanwhile, Palestinian medics reported that there were reports of deaths and injuries in Jabalia, but they were unable to reach the areas being bombed. Palestinian health officials did not immediately announce new numbers for the dead and wounded, but they said: Dozens were killed in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
Yesterday, the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders to the residents of Jabalia, Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia, nearby, asking them to go to the Al-Mawasi area designated for humanitarian purposes in the southern Gaza Strip. World Health Organization officials said in a press briefing in Cairo that the Indonesian Hospital and Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda Hospitals in northern Gaza were also asked to evacuate during the past forty-eight hours. Less than half of Gaza’s hospitals are still partially functioning.
Palestinian and United Nations officials say that there are no completely safe places in the Gaza Strip.
