According to the indictment, Tawhedi, who arrived in the US in 2021 on a special immigrant visa, was determined to carry out an attack that targeted crowds of people on the day of the presidential election. After his arrest, he confessed to investigators that his goal was for the attack to occur at a time of great movement, potentially causing panic and chaos among citizens.
FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that “terrorism is still the FBI’s number one priority, and we will use every resource to protect the American people.”
As reported by the APin the weeks leading up to his arrest, Tawhedi took concrete steps to advance his terrorist plan.
