KCNA reported that North Korea has appointed a new defense minister
No Gwang Chol was appointed as the new Minister of Defense of North Korea during the 11th session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA). About this reports Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
As emphasized, personnel appointments were considered as the fifth item on the agenda of the session, which lasted two days from October 7. Thus, Lee Man-soo became the Minister of State Construction Control, and Kim Sung-bin became the Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology.
Before this, the military department of the DPRK was headed by Kang Sun Nam.
In September, it became known that North Korea for the first time showed photographs of a facility for enriching uranium for atomic bombs, in which the country’s leader Kim Jong-un inspects the plant, which is the center of the DPRK’s nuclear program and the subject of disagreements with the United States. At the same time, the South Korean news agency Yonhap clarified that North Korea for the first time publicly disclosed one of its uranium enrichment facilities.
Earlier, Kim Jong-un said that North Korea would use nuclear weapons if the United States and South Korea tried to use force. In turn, Deputy Minister of Defense of the DPRK Kim Gang Il said that North Korea retains the right to unexpected strategic measures in response to US actions in the south of the Korean Peninsula.
