The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Tuesday (8) that they dismantled a Hezbollah tunnel that crossed Israeli territory, although it still had no exit, during its operations in southern Lebanon.
At a press conference, the international spokesman for the Israeli forces, Nadav Shoshani, said that at this moment there are no known tunnels of the terrorist group that cross into Israel.
The structure was not yet completed, so it had no exit on the Israeli side of the border and was identified months ago, according to Shoshani.
The spokesman declined to give details about how the tunnel was discovered, but noted that Israel has been carrying out missions on Lebanese soil for months, even before the start of “limited” operations against Hezbollah infrastructure a week ago.
Shoshani further explained that the construction of the tunnel is recent and that it is located near the Israeli community of Zarit, in Upper Galilee.
Israel accuses the Lebanese terrorist group of planning an invasion similar to the Hamas attacks of October 7, for which it accumulated weapons and built infrastructure along the border, and maintains that its operations in the area aim to prevent this attack and new bombings against the north of the country.
Israel has been involved in a constant exchange of fire with Hezbollah for a year, although in the last two weeks it has intensified its attacks, mainly concentrated in southern and eastern Lebanon, but also against the capital, Beirut.
The country has already ordered the forced evacuation of more than 100 Lebanese communities south of the Awali River, located more than 50 kilometers from the border with Israel.
At least 11 Israeli soldiers were also killed in fighting with Hezbollah, according to the IDF.
