The generation of images through artificial intelligence continues to be one of the biggest points of discussion today. On the one hand, some people consider this to be the future, on the other hand, those with common sense have pointed out that this soulless work has no place in artistic expression. Now, this debate has reached a new level after the release of a live action trailer for Princess Mononokethe acclaimed work of Studio Ghibli.
A few days ago, the company FIlmPort AI shared a video, where the Princess Mononoke trailer is recreated, but in a realistic style with CGI, which was built with artificial intelligence. This was not liked by the general public. Users launched strong criticism, and pointed out that this is an insult to the work of Studio Ghibli. Seeing the negative reception, the video was removed from networks, and PJ Acenturro, CEO of this company, pointed out that this was only an experiment that cost $100 dollars.
This was not the only incident of this type, since Studio 100 International, a production company that obtained the rights to multiple films by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, revealed that they are working on remasterings of his works using artificial intelligenceand the reception was not received positively either. While their intention is only to upscale the original work to 1080p and 16:9, fans have pointed out that this technology is only going to ruin Studio Ghibli’s fantastic work. Let us remember that similar cases, such as Alienssuffer from multiple visual problems that can ruin the experience of more than one person.
Along with this, Miyazaki has expressed his hatred for artificial intelligence in the past, as have other members of the studio, who have pointed out that this technology is used to create copiesand nothing that is produced is original or at least manages to have an ounce of what makes special the work created by humans with heart and ambition.
This debate is not new, and although everyone has expressed their rejection of images generated using artificial intelligence, It seems that executives still believe that this is the future of entertainment. On related topics, this would be Hayao Miyazaki’s next film. Likewise, we tell you whether or not the studio’s most recent film is worth it.
Author’s Note:
These types of jobs suck. There is no other way to define these “trailers” that people use to convince the public that this is the future of entertainment, a work without a single hint of originality, soul or anything that identifies it as art. It’s not even imitation, this is a sad attempt to sell mirrors to a public that should not, and cannot, be deceived.
