The behavior of Emiliano, the “Dibu” Martínez on the field has been the subject of conversation in football for many years. However, the Argentine had a gesture that generated reproaches after the last qualifying match against Colombia.
According to the criteria of
Óscar Córdoba, historic Colombian goalkeeper, had referred some time ago to Martínez’s reaction when he hit a cameraman who was doing his job.
Now, after knowing the sanction that will not allow him to play the next two games with Argentina, Córdoba was asked again for his opinion and referred to the example that Martínez gives to those who see him.
‘That is externalized for boys and girls’
The Colombian, in a conversation with DSports, spoke about the two-match ban imposed on the goalkeeper and recalled when he referred to his attitude between the three sticks.
“The last time I talked about Dibu, he raised me up on social media. I understand that he is a great goalkeeper” he began by praising him. However, he declared his annoyance at the way he behaves with his rivals.
“No one takes away the high level he shows within the National Team and playing in England. That you do not share some of their behaviors is the product of a social, cultural and family structure.“said the historic goalkeeper of the National Team and Boca Juniors.
In addition, he took the opportunity to reflect on the importance of an athlete and the influence on the people who see him:
“They taught me how an athlete should behave, especially being from a national team. That is externalized for boys and girls. I am giving examples to these kids who want to be the Dibu Martínez or the Óscar Córdoba of the future. If the behavior is not in line with what a high-performance, socially recognized athlete should have, it is his problem.”
Finally, he spoke about the sanction imposed and criticized the fact that the Argentine’s attitudes are a source of pride in his country. For Córdoba, his way of celebrating with the famous dances and gestures he makes to rival teams is not good.
“I only said that I don’t share their way of celebrating. But it’s his way of being. That is what it means to the Argentine people to recognize him as an idol. What he does on the court and what he does in his celebrations. I don’t share it. Enough” he concluded.
Everything indicates that the Argentine National Team will have as its main alternative Geronimo Rulli, goalkeeper of Olympique de Marseille to replace “Dibu” in the next two games against Venezuela and Bolivia.
On the other hand, the Colombian National Team is preparing for the matches against Bolivia and Chile this week in which it will seek to remain undefeated in the Qualifiers.
