During its launch, Velma became one of Max’s most controversial series. While the public reaction was mainly negative, the viewing numbers were positive. However, the same cannot be said of the second season, which retained the poor reception, but not the success that was expected. In this way, It shouldn’t be a big surprise to hear that Velma has been cancelled.
Although at the moment there is no information from Max or any of the creators, Davey Cummings, artist who participated in Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Special!, revealed that there will not be a third season of the animated series. This is what he commented:
“It was very fun to work with this team. There won’t be a season 3, but I hope to get to work with these incredibly talented people again one day. GO SEE VELMA’S HALLOWEEN SPECIAL ON MAX!”
This was a surprise to the public, since shortly afterwards the original comment was deleted, which would indicate that Cummings advanced the news, or was wrong. Although there is still the possibility that Velma return in the future, at a time when Warner Bros. is canceling all possible projects, especially animated ones, It seems that we are facing the end of this Scooby-Doo spin-off.
For the moment we only have to wait for an official confirmation, something that could happen at any time. In related topics, you can learn about the poor reception of Velma here.
Author’s Note:
I was never a fan of Velma. I watched a couple of episodes, and while it’s not the chaos that many thought, it wasn’t anything interesting either. Its biggest sin was being a boring series that didn’t do anything genuinely interesting with the Scooby-Doo characters.
