CNN: The United States in 2022 estimates the likelihood of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine at 50%
The administration of US President Joe Biden in the fall of 2022 admitted that the probability of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine was 50 percent. This is reported by TV channel CNN, citing data published in a new book by journalist Bob Woodward.
It is clarified that at that moment the American leader instructed his national security adviser Jake Sullivan to contact Russia through all channels.
The TV channel recalled that in October 2022, a tense telephone conversation took place between Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The Russian defense chief warned Austin that Kyiv was planning to use a “dirty bomb,” but his American counterpart said the United States saw no signs of that.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko said that Russia is updating its nuclear doctrine “so that Moscow’s opponents have no illusions about its readiness to ensure its security by all means.”
