Ciudad Juárez.- So far this year, the number of visits to the museums managed by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) on this border exceeded the entries that were achieved throughout last year.
According to the official statistics of that organization, the most visited museum in the city, the Museum of the Revolution on the Border (Muref), had 30,367 visits until last September, an increase of 8.3 percent compared to the entries that There were in all of 2023, when 28,033 visitors were registered.
Likewise, at the state level the museums run by the INAH already exceed the number of entries that there were in the three quarters of last year, with 83,124 people; However, it is still well below the entries registered before the pandemic, with 159,501 visits in 2019.
Statistics show that 95 percent of visitors to the museums in this town are national, while only 5 percent were foreigners.
Meanwhile, at the state level, archaeological zones are the most visited by tourists, with Paquimé being the one that accumulates the highest percentage, with 63 percent of the entries. This area is considered an example of man’s adaptation to an inhospitable region known as Oasisamerica, where, in addition, exceptional architecture was developed.
It is followed by the archaeological complex of Cueva de la Olla, in the municipality of Nuevo Casas Grandes, with 32 percent. This site received its name because it has a large structure similar to that of a pot built of grass and mud, which was used as a granary more than 800 years ago.
Finally, Cuarenta Casas, which is located in the town of El Vallecito, 45 kilometers north of one of the Muref rooms in the municipality of Madera, with 4.22 percent.
Last year, museums reported more visitors, with 48.4 million people, 10.8 million more than in 2022, according to a report from Inegi.

León and the State of Mexico concentrated the largest attendance, with 61 percent of visitors. In the country’s capital alone, 22.2 million people attended the 148 existing museums, followed by Nuevo León, with 4.7 million and 48 venues.
