MDB won 6 seats in the municipal Executive; next is the PL, with 4 seats
Goiânia, capital of Goiás, elected 37 councilors to the City Council last Sunday (Oct 6, 2024), with terms of office from 2025 to 2028. The MDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement) elected the largest number of councilors, with 6 candidates.
The PL (Liberal Party), of the former president Jair Bolsonarowon 4 seats, including that of former federal deputy Major Victor Hugo (PL), the most voted in the city, with 15,678 votes. In 2nd place was the former rector of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Edward Madureira (PT), which received 13,573 votes.

Goiânia also elected the two oldest councilors in Brazilian capitals: Sebastian Peixoto (PSDB), known as Tião Peixoto, aged 79, and Maria Roselene Cruvinel (UB), Rose Cruvinel, 76 years old.
