The second course of free training on Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (Cmt) dedicated to general practitioners and healthcare professionals. It’s called ‘Recognize, diagnose and treat Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT)’ and is created by Consulcesi Foundation and Acmt-Retein collaboration with Fimmg Rome. The professional training project was created to improve the early diagnosis and clinical management of patients suffering from Cmt. Indeed, this rare hereditary peripheral neuropathy is often poorly recognized, with an average diagnostic delay of up to 10 years.
CMT, despite being the most common hereditary peripheral neuropathy, is little known even among doctors and healthcare professionals. It mainly affects the extremities of the body, hindering the control of hand and foot movements and compromising balance. Often daily gestures such as walking, holding cutlery or buttoning a shirt become difficult or impossible for those suffering from this disease. Many patients wait years before receiving a correct diagnosis, living in uncertainty. “After the success of the first edition, which saw hundreds of healthcare workers trained on the disease, Acmt-Rete confirms the collaboration with the Consulcesi Foundation – comments Federico Tiberio, president of Acmt-Rete – The objective is to train an ever-increasing number of doctors to recognize the clinical signs of Cmt, promoting timely diagnoses and then directing patients to appropriate specialists in a short time”.
Developed by a team of experts coordinated by Francesco Ferrarodirector of the Department of Specialist Neuromotor Rehabilitation at the Bozzolo facility (Mantua) – reports a note – the Ecm event addresses the symptoms, clinical characteristics and therapeutic paths of Cmt. Trainers include neurologists, physiotherapists, geneticists and orthopedic surgeons, who offer a multidisciplinary approach to disease management. The course is completely free and accessible through the Sanità In-Formazione Fad platform. At the end of the course, participants will be able to take a test and obtain 5 CME credits. The course is available from October 2024 in remote mode, allowing participants to manage their time and learn at their own individual pace.
