Metaphor’s stylish menus: ReFantazio and episodes of Persona they are complicated to make: game director Katsura Hashino revealed it, saying that it is a long and far from pleasant job.
“In general, the way most developers build interfaces is very simple,” Hashino explained, “and that’s what we try to do as well: Let’s try to keep things simplepractical and usable.”
“However, perhaps the reason why we were able to achieve both functionality and aesthetics for our games is related to the special designs that we create for each menu”, continued the game director.
“Unfortunately it is a very complicated job. We have separate software for each menu: whether it’s the shop or the main screen, when you open them there is a specific software to manage them and a different design to create, which takes a lot of time.”
The results, however, can be seen
The interface therefore required a lot of work, but the results are there for all to see and we also talked about it in the review of Metaphor: ReFantazio, spending very positive words regarding the general artistic direction of the adventure.
Upon closer inspection, the uniqueness of the menus of this title and of the Persona episodes represents in many ways a distinctive and characterizing traitwhich immediately gives an idea of the great care that the development team has placed in creating the product.
So yes, we are talking about a complex and demanding procedure, which Hashino and his collaborators must optimize on a case-by-case basis, but on balance it is worth it.
