The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its air force’s fighter jets struck new targets in Beirut, this Monday (7), belonging to Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters.
These attacks, according to the military released this Tuesday (8), resulted in the death of Suhail Hussein, head of the Shiite group’s logistical headquarters and member of the Jihad Council, Hezbollah’s main military body.
The IDF claims that Husseini’s command oversaw Hezbollah’s logistics and budget for its various terrorist units.
“Husseini played a crucial role in arms transfers between Iran and Hezbollah and was responsible for the distribution of advanced weaponry among Hezbollah units, overseeing both the transport and allocation of these weapons,” they reported.
Israeli fighter jets also attacked targets belonging to the group in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region in the east of the country, as the army expands its ground operations in Lebanon.
The move adds thousands of troops to Israel’s ground offensive, with the total number of soldiers deployed now likely to exceed 15,000, according to the newspaper. Times of Israel.
This Monday, Israel reported that its air force carried out another extensive operation in southern Lebanon against more than 120 terrorist targets belonging to Hezbollah. These targets were part of different units of the Lebanese group, including its elite force, missile force and intelligence command.
Hezbollah says Israel will be ‘defeated’ in Lebanon
Hezbollah’s deputy secretary general, Naim Qassem, stated this Tuesday (8) that Israel “will not achieve its objectives” and will be “defeated” in southern Lebanon and, although he supports the efforts of the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri , to achieve a ceasefire, said that, before that, “there is nothing left to do but fight”.
“The enemy thinks he will win. The only solution is the resistance, firmness and unity of our people around us. And that is our choice of victory, we will defeat Israel and it will not achieve its objectives,” said the number two from the group in a speech that marked one year since the start of crossfire between Hezbollah and Israel, a day after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.
Qassem said the war “has not affected” his will and that Hezbollah members are “expanding the range” of their missiles and aircraft.
On the other hand, the terrorist group’s number two said he supports “Berri’s political action in favor of a ceasefire”, but stated that it will only be after the ceasefire that all details about the country’s future will be discussed.
“Before a ceasefire, there will be no room for discussion. If the enemy continues the war, we will continue,” he said.
Qassem again mentioned the fact that the election of Hezbollah’s general secretary has not yet been completed “in accordance with organizational mechanisms”, following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, who led the group for 30 years and was the target of an Israeli attack in southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahieh.
“We will announce it in due time. The circumstances are difficult and complex because of the war”, he explained.
Since Nasrallah’s death on September 27, Hashem Safi al-Din has been seen as a possible successor, although he has not been heard from since Israel launched a bombing raid on Dahieh last week that may have hit him. .
