The former tronista of Men and Women attacked: “He spat on me and shouted at me”
Veronica Rimondiformer host of the popular television program Men and Womenwent through a traumatic experience that she decided to share with her followers on Instagram to raise awareness among other women of the dangers that can be encountered, even in seemingly harmless moments. The young woman, while jogging in Rome, was attacked by a man who insulted and terrified her. The episode had a fortunately less dramatic epilogue thanks to the presence of other people.
Veronica, visibly shaken, recounted the episode in a chilling video, explaining how the attacker approached her while she was running on a cycle path near her home:
“He passed me and as he ran he began to stare at me with a malice that I will dream of at least tonight. Then he started yelling at me, spitting on me and insulting me in a language that wasn’t Italian.”
Veronica would never have imagined that she could be the victim of such an episode in broad daylight. The attacker, whom the girl did not know and who seemed to be looking for an excuse to attack her, took her by surprise, which is why she had an attack of panic. Only the arrival of other people made the attacker flee, averting a potentially more dangerous outcome.
Veronica decided to make the incident public after being encouraged by friends and acquaintances, in the hope that her testimony could be useful to other women. She invites her followers to always be vigilant and never underestimate the danger. Its strongest message, however, concerns the collective responsibility to intervene or help those in difficulty. He loudly condemned the indifference of those, like a woman who witnessed it to the attack without intervening, he preferred to remain a spectator rather than act.
“I feel a moral duty to share what happened to me, in the hope of being able to avoid such a bad situation for someone else. Help others, without putting yourself in danger, of course, but there are more ways to help those who need help.”
Veronica Rimondi has transformed aterrible experience on an occasion to raise awareness of the need to pay attention to the dangers that women can encounter even in the most everyday situations. His story is a warning to everyone, so that we never lower our guard and remain united in the face of episodes of violence, without ever turning our gaze elsewhere. Because, as Veronica said:
“We must not and cannot turn a blind eye if we see that someone needs help. One day that someone could be you.”
