There Germany reiterates its no to the imposition of definitive additional duties on electric cars produced in China. The German government has already voted against this decision of the EU in recent days, and now reiterates its position through the statements of the spokeswoman of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Christiane Hoffemann, who responded to a question on the agreement in Berlin at a press conference.
Germany says no to Chinese anti-EV duties
“We expect the talks between the EU and China to continue and to reach an agreement negotiated solution – his words reported by Ansa – However, we expect serious movements and progress on the Chinese side to reach an agreement. For what our vote was it is not a defeat, but for us it is decisive that the negotiations continue and that a solution is reached in the interests of the German economy and the entire automotive industry”.
Decision made
Let’s remember that overall they were ten EU countries to vote in favor of giving the green light to definitive additional duties on Chinese electric cars: they also appear among these Italy and France. Five countries, however, said they were against it, led as mentioned by Germany, while twelve abstained, including Spain.
