Only the overall title was missing, missed by Marvin Klein behind Keagan Masters in the drivers’ standings, but Target Competition has something to smile about looking at the results of its 2024 in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. In Monza last weekend, above all, the Team title arrived (in the roll of honor it succeeds Dinamic Motorsport, winner in 2023), but also the fifth victory of the season with the third different driver (Robert De Haan, after Klein’s 3 successes and that of Janne Stiak) and also many appreciations for the very young Stiak, who at 17 years old has been the protagonist of a clear growth in the Italian single-brand brand.
What is most surprising, however, is the speed with which the South Tyrolean team has reached the top of one of the most competitive, fierce and coveted championships of its kind now also on the international scene (the first Italian to finish in the last race of the season it was Iaquinta, tenth!), going from… zero, that is, from his debut, to the title in a year and a half, that is, already in his second season in the Carrera Cup.
Flanked by the trusted Slovakian chief mechanic Roman Pinciar, the team manager Walter Gummerer talks about the “Target phenomenon”, underlining that it is underway “there is an immediate expansion regarding these contexts”.
Yet you only joined PCCI last year: what world did you find in Porsche?
“I must say that we have fallen in love with the world of Porsche. This is why we already have very important plans for next year.”
Which?
“Both in Italy and Germany and we would also like to enter the Supercup.”
Already last year you settled in quite well, with the young Slutskii twins but also with a victory for Klein…
“2023 was the debut year and in the end it went well with the two rookies. We understood the Porsche world, how to manage the car and it was a good year because the guys didn’t do badly at all, especially at the end. In plus, a factor that is always important when faced with something new, even economically we have settled in the appropriate way.”
This year, however, it was a season lived at high levels and it is right to celebrate the title.
“In terms of results we have had some highs but also some lows. It is not yet linear as in our objectives, which do not necessarily have to include always getting on the podium, but at least being immediately below. Always being in the top-5. The boys in everyone in the team was really good. They worked with great serenity, but also with the professionalism necessary in a team that wants to win. It wasn’t easy, given that only a year ago they had to start from the instruction book!”
