Ghanaians urged to refrain from kissing due to monkeypox
The Ghana Health Service has urged the country’s population to refrain from kissing and sex due to the outbreak of monkeypox. About this reports Modern Ghana.
The organization made this statement after another case of a dangerous disease was recorded in the North-West region of the country. Ghana, which has a population of 33 million, has reported 230 cases across dozens of counties.
The disease can be spread through close body contact, according to the health service. “It is therefore recommended that kissing and sex involving skin-to-skin contact be avoided with people suspected of having smallpox,” said the organization’s director, Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe.

Citizens were also urged to be vigilant, take preventive measures and consult a doctor at the slightest suspicion of infection.
Monkeypox is an infectious disease of humans and animals, characterized by high fever, general intoxication of the body and the appearance of characteristic rashes in the form of small bumps on the skin. The mortality rate of the disease is up to 10 percent in unvaccinated patients. In this case, the infection can cause serious complications, including encephalitis and sepsis.
Earlier research into the monkeypox outbreak that began in Ireland in 2022 identified a man who was actively spreading the infection. He managed to sleep with 75 people in 21 days and infected them all.
