PSB won 15 seats in the municipal Executive; next is the PL, with 4 seats
Recife, capital of Pernambuco, elected 37 councilors to the City Council last Sunday (Oct 6, 2024), with mandates ranging from 2025 to 2028. The PSB, party of the re-elected mayor João Camposmaintained the majority in the House, with 15 councilors elected.
The PL (Liberal Party), acronym of the former president Jair Bolsonarosecured 4 seats, including that of Gilson Machado Filho, the 2nd most voted councilor in the capital, with 16,095 votes. The PT, the president’s party, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvawill occupy 2 seats in the Recife legislature. The most voted was Romerinho Jatobá (PSB) with 20,264 votes.

This year, the number of seats in the Chamber was reduced due to the 2022 Census, which showed a drop in the population of Recife compared to the 2010 survey.
