Harris: US should stick to ‘one China’ policy and help Taiwan
The US should adhere to the “one China” policy and try to maintain Taiwan’s defense capabilities. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said this in interview CBS television channel.
Asked whether the United States should use military force in the event of a possible attack by mainland China on Taiwan, Harris said she was not going to “discuss hypothetical questions.” At the same time, she emphasized that the United States must win the “competition for the 21st century” against China, without seeking direct conflict.
“We must adhere to the ‘one China’ policy.” But this includes supporting Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities, including what we need to do to ensure freedom in the Taiwan Strait. We need to keep the lines of communication open with China, especially military-to-military,” Harris said.
Earlier, Kamala Harris accused her rival Donald Trump of selling the United States to China. She accused Trump of facilitating the supply of chips to China, which, according to her, led to a trade war.
