Stateside a court ordered tech giant Google to open up its Android operating system to rival app stores.
A California judge ordered that the decision take effect on November 1. Google has announced that it will appeal the decision.
The order is the result of a legal battle against Google by Epic Games, the maker of the Fortnite game. Last December, the court found that Google’s application store had an illegal monopoly on Android operating systems.
The new order prohibits Google from acting in a number of ways that were deemed to distort competition last December. The order is valid for three years.
For example, the company may not demand that application developers publish their new products exclusively in the Google application store.
Previously, Epic Games had lost a largely similar case against another tech giant, Apple. The judge in that case decided the case largely in favor of Apple.
