The world of dubbing is quite beloved, we are not only referring to the Latin part, where people have people who lend their voices to characters as their biggest idols to follow, and that happens precisely with the situation of Dragon Ball Z in the United States. One of the people most present in the project has been Mr. Doc Harriswhich has also been heard in the official video games of the saga, but unfortunately its work is ending just this year.
At 76 years old, Harris He left an indelible legacy in the memory of fans of the series, who will remember him for his characteristic phrase at the end of each episode: “See you next time in Dragon Ball Z.” His deep, enveloping voice accompanied more than 200 episodes of the series, making his narration a key element in the English experience.
The news of his death was confirmed by Broadcast Dialogue, who reported that the actor died after undergoing minor surgery last month. Born Gilbert Auchinleck, Harris adopted the pseudonym “Doc Harris” during his years as a disc jockey in Vancouver in the 1960s and 1970s. He later entered the world of dubbing, lending his voice to a wide variety of programs and video games, including Captain N: The Game Master and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. However, his role as narrator in the iconic anime was what catapulted him to stardom in the field of dubbing.
On platforms like Reddit, fans highlighted his ability to give dramatic weight to phrases like “send someone to another dimension,” which in the edited version for television replaced the death of the characters, but which thanks to Harris’ narration achieved sound equally epic. Although he was eventually replaced by Kyle Hebert, who also voiced Gohan, Harris will always be remembered as the voice that accompanied an era of Dragon Ball Z.
It is important to mention that the Latin American community also suffered a similar loss a few years ago, when he died José Lavat, the Latin Spanish narrator of the series. Lavat, like Harris, was a pillar in the lives of fans who grew up with the adventures of Goku and the Z Fighters, leaving a void impossible to fill.

Author’s note: It is ultimately very sad that this news comes out just this week, due to the launch of a new game and series in the franchise. May he rest in peace, in my experience I remember it because it also dubbed the games from the PS2 era.
